Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I believe technology is at its best when it's approachable and accessible to everyone. Let's do amazing things with the tech we own!

MIRROR: 100 Days Later

MIRROR: 100 Days Later

It’s been over 3 months since I started using the MIRROR and amazing things have happened in my life. For the first time ever since owning Apple Watch, today I hit my Activity move goal for 100 consecutive days. I can very confidently say that it’s because I found MIRROR. Please find my initial review here.

With the current MIRROR marketing slogan of “See Yourself”, it couldn’t be more clear to me that this company is doing great things, and they’re just getting started. In these last 100 days I’ve not only seen a change in my physical appearance, but also in my emotional well-being.

Using the MIRROR doesn’t feel like you’re “working out”, but rather like you’re a part of something significantly bigger. I don’t like working out. I still can confidently say I don’t like working out. I’m pretty sure that I didn’t like the getting ready part, packing work out clothes in my bag, and going to the gym to have people around trying to out lift, out run, and out stretch me. The fact is as humans we are all on our own journey and path. The MIRROR enables that journey for you to go at your own pace, work out when it works for your own schedule, and not be intimidated by the experience but rather embraced by the community.

Community is the first word that comes to mind when using MIRROR as the outpouring of support from the instructors is something that I’ve never experienced from a health and fitness scenario. Also the community goes deeper than that. If you have questions or any issues at all with the MIRROR you can reach out to their support team by emailing hello@mirror.co and someone follows up with you. This isn’t an auto-generated computer following up with you, but a real live human being. This happens via email or a phone call. You can also call their support line Monday-Friday 10 AM - 6 PM EST and select Option 3 “For assistance using your MIRROR” at (888) 288-1588. If for any reason you’re calling after business hours or the call goes to voicemail, you can leave a message and the team will indeed follow up with you as soon as they can.

I personally believe that MIRROR has set out on a journey to make the entire work out experience approachable. I got that impression a few days after I bought the product and my welcome kit arrived with the hand written note from the CEO, Brynn Putnam. I feel cohesive optimism from the support team the few times I’ve interacted with them. They are humans beings who genuinely care and want to help. The support team at MIRROR want to hear your thoughts and concerns, as they believe the voice of the user is the way for the product to continue to improve and thrive. Lastly I absolutely feel the optimism from the instructors who will make a point to go out of their way to acknowledge you’re in their class. They are thanking you for giving them your time to disconnect from the outside world and spend time bettering yourself physically and emotionally.

The team at MIRROR made a very smart and active decision to launch with the driving force behind the user experience start with iPhone. This enabled them to leverage the Apple Watch integration of the heart rate monitor to see your heart rate and live metrics on the display. The Apple Watch, in my opinion, is the most personal device that Apple has developed to date. Let’s start by looking at the logistics of it; it is literally touching your skin! There is a lot of trust that users have with Apple, and since the team at MIRROR found a way to leverage the Apple Watch to work seamlessly with their product they immediately have their users trust and appreciation. The Apple Watch paired to MIRROR offers a deeper integration that enriches the MIRROR experience. On Apple Watch you can use the Digital Crown to control the volume of both the instructor and the music. You can also communicate with the instructors by sending a live emoji from the watch. This is great way to break free from your phone and focus on the class and yourself in the MIRROR.

One of the MIRROR instructors, Gerren Liles is a social media rockstar, and started the Instagram handle of @mirrorteam100. This account on Instagram is there for accountability, and inspiration. Gerren will include users in the @mirrorteam100 story who have achieved success, big or small. This is also something that inspired me to get to this point of 100 day move goal. Yet another example why MIRROR isn’t “another one of those workouts you can do at home”, but rather it’s something bigger to be a part of.

The MIRROR app on iOS has also made significant improvements since my initial review. There is now a direct feature to add upcoming live classes to your calendar with one tap. This is a nice way to integrate further into the Apple ecosystem with the ability to place this workout on your personal or shared calendars. MIRROR also launched newer “Toning” & “Kickboxing” genres in their all ready diverse selection of classes. This is always nice to see the company offer more and more choices of classes on MIRROR to ensure the product is inclusive for everyone.

I’m thankful I found MIRROR at the perfect time of my life. 🙏 To anyone out there that feels like they can’t get back into shape or don’t think “working out” is for them, give MIRROR a chance. You will be a part of a movement and will be able to better yourself inside and out. It could change your life too. So one last time, who do you want to be when you look in the mirror?
