Since the introduction of iPhone 4 back in 2010, Apple added a front facing camera so you can easily take a picture of yourself. And just like that the term “selfie” was born. Now this camera was a big deal because the iPhone 4 back in 2010 was the launch of FaceTime which really changed the way people communicate. It really is like we are living the Jetsons. One question that I have received for many years from my colleagues has been, why when I take a picture with my front facing camera that the picture flips like I’m in the mirror? Well the technical reason was because the camera was looking at you correctly, but your brain is looking at it in reverse. So when the iPhone would capture the photo it would indeed flip. Regardless, this is solved in iOS 14 to make it a much more seamless experience.

If you would like all selfie photos to capture on your iPhone exactly like you see them, all you need to do is this. Navigate to Settings, Camera, and enable “Mirror Front Camera”. After that navigate back over to the Camera App and take a selfie. You’ll notice that the photo saves on your phone exactly how it appears! A small enhancement that will make a huge difference for some users! Exciting times my friends.

Lastly, you can even retroactively flip selfies that you have taken with on an older iPhone or older software. To do so navigate to the photo in the Photos App, select Edit, tap the Crop icon at the bottom, and then the flip image icon in the upper left hand corner. This is a native way that you can switch your selfie to have it show your “better side”. 🙃
