Easy Way To Transfer Pictures And Videos From iPhone To Mac

Easy Way To Transfer Pictures And Videos From iPhone To Mac

People absolutely love to take photos and videos with iPhone. Let's face it, the most popular digital camera in the world is the one all ready in your pocket. iPhone is the perfect device to capture those special moments with family, friends, and loved ones. Now of course after we capture those moments, let's discuss how we can we easily transfer them to a computer. I've always done this on the Mac with a very small effective app called Image Capture.

Image capture is a utility built into the Mac operating system. There is no 3rd party software to install for you to get up and running with this app.

You can find this App located in the /Applications folder.

Navigate to /Applications to find the App.

After the App is launched plug in your iPhone/ iPad to your Mac with a USB cable.

With business as usual, ensure you tap "Trust" and type in your iOS passcode lock on your mobile device screen to enable the handshake between the Mac and the iPhone.

After that is done you should see the iPhone appear on the sidebar on the left underneath DEVICES.

Select the iPhone listed in the upper left hand corner of the screen to see all of the photos and videos that live in the library on your the iOS device.

Now that we see the photos and videos that live on your iPhone, let's take a moment to explore this window. Image Capture conveniently gives you columns to sort by Name, Kind, Date, and File Size which can assist in finding the photos or videos in question quite rapidly.

Once you have found the photos you want to import, look near the bottom of the application window. You'll see the "Import to:" field. By default this will place the photos in the "Pictures" folder which is located on your Mac in the Home Folder of your user. I alway feel there is an easier way with this, especially if you are importing more than a few photos. Let's create a new folder on the Desktop to place these pictures into.

I recommend to select the dropdown menu and select Other...

From there you will see a Finder window pop up and select Desktop from the sidebar on the left, and then New Folder.

Name the new folder "iPhone Photos" or anything that you would like the folder to be called. After that be sure to select Open to ensure that this newly created folder is the folder that Image Capture will import your pictures into.

Now the only question you need to ask yourself is would you like to import all of the photos and videos from your iPhone to this folder on your Mac, or would you only like to transfer a few? Apple conveniently gives you the option to do everything in one fell swoop with the "Import All" button, but you can also pick and choose by selecting the photos while holding the command button on your keyboard and selecting Import.

After the import is complete you will see green check marks next to the successfully imported photos and videos. At this time you would be able to navigate to where that folder is located (Desktop for our instance) to ensure you you have the photos and videos you needed.

Happy photo and video importing my friends!
