Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I believe technology is at its best when it's approachable and accessible to everyone. Let's do amazing things with the tech we own!

Favorite App: Save Images

Favorite App: Save Images

For those who know me personally know that I am a big fan of  iOS. I use my iPad Pro for as much as possible. Over the years there were times that it took longer to do things on iPhone or iPad than it did on a Mac. Well some of that may still be true today, but Apple has really been bridging the gap in this mobile first world that we live in. When Apple launched iOS 8 in 2014 it introduced a new concept called "Extensions", the idea that one App can seamlessly communicate to another. This has really evolved over the past 4 years and is one of the factors contributing to the success of iOS.

Let's say that you're browsing the web and you're on a website where you see a picture that you really like. You can of course take a screenshot of your entire screen, crop the photo to your liking, and save it to my Photos App. You can also hold your finger down on the photo and select "Save Image" which will also place that photo in your Photos App. But let's say there are multiple pictures on the website using Safari and you want to save a few or even all of them. This could be very time consuming and not a great experience. This is where Save Images comes into play.

Download the Save Images App from the iOS App Store for free here.

After it's downloaded launch the App once and select Open Safari. Now that Safari is launched let's tap the Share Button, and swipe to the right where you will see "More". Scroll down and you'll see the Save Images action that will be turned off. Turn that action on and where you see the 3 little lines on the right of the switch hold and drag that to the top. When you drag actions to the top in this list, that will designate where the actions show up in your Share Menu. The Save Images action is such a useful extension we want it right at the top. 😃

After the extension is enabled and at the top of your list, navigate to a site that has photos you're like to download. For this example, I used macmeicloud.com. Select the Share button and then Save Images. You'll be presented with a screen like the one below. Tap the "Select" option upper right, select the photos you want to save, and tap "Save".

If this is the first time you're using the App, you will of course get the standard iOS prompt asking your permission to have Save Images access your Photos. Select OK.

And just like that all of the the photos that were selected will all be saved to your  Photos App.

Give the Save Images App a try. It's free, it can save you time, and it's one of the most useful iOS extensions I have used to date.

Be well friends.
