Prediction: One More Thing Event
One more thing, is quite the iconic phrase. For anyone not familiar with it, it’s what Steve Jobs would say at the very end of a keynote presentation to debut a new product to the world. It goes directly back to the ethos of Apple to “surprise and delight” their customers.
For the last few product announcements, Apple has been quite active on Twitter even getting a custom hashtag of #AppleEvent . They have been tweeting at you if you like their keynote invite and send you a notification saying how you’ll get a reminder to tune into the live keynote!
I believe this will be the last official keynote of 2020 for Apple, and I’m sure it will not disappoint.
I predict we will see the following items in this keynote:
Apple TV - Long overdue for sure! It’d be awesome to simply see internal bumps to the Apple TV 4K. This would enable more people to buy into their services and a deeper dive into gaming with Apple Arcade. With more people streaming content than ever right now, this would be the perfect time before the holiday rush to launch this new product. The Apple TV didn’t have a design change since the 2nd generation Apple TV. Steve Jobs himself debuted this September 1st, 2010 and it was the first to run on a variant of iOS. Look for Apple TV to perhaps have a bigger update than we expect with internal spec bump as well as new design.
AirTags - These have been rumored for quite a while, and I feel it’s a good time to launch them. When Apple transitioned the “Find My iPhone” app to the “Find My” App, I knew something else had to be brewing. AirTags should be equipped with ultra wide band technology to make it easy to track your belongings. I can see these being a huge hit for holiday season coming up, and the ultimate accessory and stocking stuffer for an iPhone user.
Apple Silicon Mac - This has been one that I’m sure the internal team at Apple has been working on for years. The day has come that Apple will taken one step further in controlling the user experience, and this move comes with shipping a Mac with Apple Silicon. This means Apple will continue their years long transition from Intel to their own processors. They will be able to use the same processor now across their entire product line from iPhone, to iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and now the Mac. This will be a dream for developers who will be able to have a significantly wider reach with their Apps that they build and that are distributed through the App Store. They will be able to create an App and have a much easier time to get a wider audience across the entire Apple ecosystem. I can see this being the perfect time for Apple to introduce a larger display portable Mac, within a similar frame. For instance, let’s watch this space for 14” display to come to the Mac lineup.
macOS 11 Big Sur Official Launch Date - As this is the next release of macOS this is one to not go unnoticed. For the first time in 19 years, Apple is moving away from macOS 10.x or Mac OS X. Mac OS X was initially released in 2001. This next release is the birth of macOS 11. This can only mean a new dawn for the Mac, with new architecture to scale to the future. IT Departments have been prepping for this for months to not only support it for their users, but to ensure a proper upgrade plan is in place to guarantee the process goes smoothly.
….and one more thing? Now this would be absolutely amazing. If Tim Cook at the end of the keynote gave us the “one more thing” that no one is speculating, talking about, or even thinking of! That is reason enough right there to tune into this keynote.
Should be an exciting day in the Apple community, especially for Mac enthusiasts. Months ago Apple was offering a custom Mac Mini with the Apple Silicon processor built into it to give developers a chance to get their Apps ready for macOS Big Sur with an Apple processor. These new Macs will be a hot product this holiday season, and I’m looking forward to getting my hands on them ASAP!
Happy Keynote everyone! Let’s hope “One More Thing” is a positive boost that 2020 needs.
